3 badly injured after single-car crash in New York

Three men were critically injured in the Bulls Head neighborhood of Staten Island when the driver of a 2001 Honda CR-V crashed his vehicle into a tree at around 3 a.m. on July 27, according to a spokesman for the NYPD. As shown in pictures of the accident scene, the front side of the red Honda was smashed in after it flipped vertically onto its grill. Firefighters reportedly used a Hurst tool to extract three men from the vehicle, which was pinned against the tree.

According to one witness, the passenger sitting in the front seat of the car was screaming as firefighters came to his rescue; the other two men did not seem to be moving. The front-side passenger was transported to Richmond University Medical Center along with the driver; both of them were in critical condition. The passenger sitting in the back of the car had even more severe injuries than the other two occupants of the car; that person was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

At last report, the NYPD was investigating whether the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the auto accident. The 24-year-old witness who watched firefighters extricate the three men from the vehicle also stated that he could see police officers taking multiple bottles of alcohol out of the car, but the witness was unable to ascertain whether the bottles had been opened.

Passengers who suffer injuries as a result of another driver's negligence may want to speak with an attorney about their accident. Even if an injured passenger was in the same vehicle as the person responsible for his or her injuries, it may still be possible to pursue a personal injury claim.
