New York crash on major freeway kills woman

On June 27, a 62-year-old woman died from injuries she suffered in a chain-reaction collision involving three cars on I-90 in Tyre, Seneca County. Two people involved in the fatal auto accident reported no injuries; however, a 72-year-old man involved was hospitalized for serious injuries.

According to New York State Police, the three-vehicle accident occurred in the west lane of the Thruway near mile marker 315 when a 53-year-old man from Liverpool crashed into the rear end of a car that was stopped in traffic. The force of the collision sent the car driven by a 29-year-old Utica man into the back of the car before him, causing severe injuries to the 72-year-old male driver and killing his female passenger. Emergency medical personnel who responded to the scene transported the elderly man to a Syracuse hospital where he was reportedly recovering from his injuries.

Police have charged the Liverpool man with following too closely and unsafe speed. The official investigation into the wreck was ongoing at the time of the news release.

New York residents who were hurt in a car wreck may suffer with critical injuries that could take time to heal. If the accident was the result of the negligent actions of a motorist, the injured victims may be able to hold the motorist liable by filing a personal injury lawsuit.

By analyzing the official police report of the accident scene and reviewing eyewitness accounts, a personal injury attorney may be able to prove driver negligence in a civil court. Any charges that were filed against the faulted driver in the crash might also be used by the injured party to substantiate allegations of negligence in order to bring about a fair compensation to cover a plaintiff's medical expenses and loss of earnings caused by the crash.
