Grand jury indicts man for crimes stemming from 2014 accident

A 25-year-old man from New York has been incarcerated following a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle he had been driving. The accident lead to the death of another cyclist. Although the wreck took place in May 2014, the process of investigation and indictment took a long time to complete, and the man was not detained until April 16, 2015.

The grand jury indictment contained a wide variety of charges that the police felt were justified by their investigation. They included class 'E" Felony Criminally Negligent Homicide, Class 'A" Misdemeanor Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Misdemeanor Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the second degree and two more infractions involving an alleged unsafe lane change and imprudent speed.

According to the testimony and evidence presented in court, the accused man was driving a motorcycle on the Sprain Brook Parkway in a manner described as reckless. He appears to have run the motorcycle under his control into the back of a car that was driving in the same direction as him. This caused a chain reaction collision that led directly to the death of a third individual on another motorcycle.

Those who lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents caused by the negligence of other drivers lose the ability to care for the family and provide for their maintenance as they could when they were alive. This may cause serious financial setbacks to the family as they struggle to deal with the passing of their loved one. An attorney may be able to suggest some of the remedies that may be available to receive compensation for their losses, including the pursuit of a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible party.
