Working a job is a very important component in most people’s lives. This is how one makes a living; however, it is not always an ideal environment to be in. For some, it might mean working in risky or dangerous conditions. For others it might mean working a 9 to 5 or adjusting from such a schedule to a later shift. Working late at night may be ideal to some; however, it may be frustrating for others. Regardless what time of day they work, it is important that they note their rights and options if an injury is suffered on the job.

Why are night shift workers more prone to workplace injuries? Based on current data analysis, workers that work at night as well as those that are new to the job are at a higher risk of injuring themselves on the job. The top five industries the produce these risks include healthcare, construction, transport and storage, manufacturing and utilities and agriculture, forestry and fishing.

For construction, it was found that those working night shifts and shift work were at a higher risk of being injured at work when compared to those working regular hours. New recruits as well as part-time workers were also found to suffer a high rate of workplace injuries when compared to seasoned workers and full-time employees.

The data was collected from 2001 to 2014, and it looked at fatal and non-fatal work injuries. With regards to fatal accidents in the workplace, the rate of fatalities is the highest in the agriculture, forestry and fishing industries. From 2001 to 207, there were 129 deaths in that sector, which increased to 151 from 2008 to 2015.

No matter hat type of industry a person works in, injuries are always possible. However, there are greater chances for these injuries when an individual works in a certain industry or at a certain time of day. Because of this, it is important that injured workers understand what rights they might have and what they may do if a workplace accident occurs. Workers compensation benefits can be very resourceful and valuable for an injured worker unable to work because of a work accident.
